The Yolo County Pride Democrats are proud to support candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to their community, to Democratic ideals, and to advancing the interests of California’s 2SLGBTQIA Community in government.

Yolo County Pride Democratic Club endorses in a wide variety of races at all levels of government but does not typically endorse outside of Yolo County. In some cases, the Club may make exceptions for LGBTQ+ candidates, in races with a compelling reason to “flip” a seat from non-Democratic control, or where the LGBTQ+ community is a vested stakeholder.

THE ENDORSEMENT PROCESS

Candidates or campaigns seeking Yolo County Pride Dems endorsement must initiate the process by completing the candidate questionnaire. The Club may reach out to candidates in races that the Club has identified as important.

Eligible candidates will be sent a candidate questionnaire related to the candidate's detailed policy positions, experience, and goals in office.

Once the questionnaire is completed and submitted, the Election Committee typically schedules interviews of all of the candidates in a race with a panel of the Yolo County Pride Democratic Club members. The panel makes a recommendation as to which candidate to endorse at the during the General Membership meeting.

After the General Membership, Yolo Pride Dem members in good standing will vote to either accept the recommendation or endorse another candidate. Endorsement requires a 51% vote of the approved General Membership.

If the membership is unable to agree on a candidate to recommend for endorsement, may consider the endorsement without a recommendation. At these meeting each candidate has an opportunity to address the general membership before the vote occurs.

VOTING ELIGIBILITY

Only current Yolo County Pride Dem Members are permitted to vote. Per the bylaws, you must be a paid member for 31 days or more before the endorsement meeting in order to vote.

VOTE STACKING

In order to prevent vote stacking, a tactic in which candidates purchase memberships directly before an endorsement vote in order to essentially purchase the endorsement, the Club has instituted a 31-day waiting period from the time a member purchases their membership until they are eligible to vote on any club endorsements.

Monday, January 19 - Deadline, paid membership (to vote in endorsement)
Friday February 13 - Questionnaire available
Friday March 6 - Yolo County Candidate Filing Deadline
Friday March 13 - Questionnaires due (no exceptions)
Saturday March 14 - Information sent to members for review
TENTATIVE Saturday March 21 || 8 am - 8 pm - Endorsement Forum (via Zoom)
Saturday March 21 || 8 pm - Voting by Members in Good Standing [open 24hrs]
